TECNIS® MULTIFOCAL FAQS

Q. Is the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens procedure safe?

A. Every surgical procedure has risks and potential side effects. Your doctor will explain all of these in full detail. However, the lens removal and lens implant technique used in the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens procedure is performed over 15 million times per year worldwide2 and is recognized for its safety and predictability.

Q. How long will it be before I see well?

A. Everyone heals at a different rate, but in most cases, you will notice improved vision almost immediately after your procedure. You may, however, have an adjustment period where you see some glare or halos around bright lights. In most cases, this goes away over a period of weeks or months.

Q. Will I be totally free from glasses?

A. Many people with the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens experience the best eyesight they’ve had in years. In fact, nearly 9 out of 10 people do not require glasses after receiving a TECNIS® Multifocal implantable lens.

Q. Am I a candidate for the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens?

A. If you’ve been diagnosed with cataracts, you may be a candidate for the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens. Whether the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens is the right choice for you depends on your personal preferences, lifestyle, and the overall health of your eyes. Your doctor will make a recommendation following a complete eye exam.

Q. How is the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens different from traditional monofocal IOLs?

A: The TECNIS® Multifocal Lens is a multifocal intraocular lens. Unlike traditional monofocal (single-vision) lens implants, the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens provides quality vision at all distances – near (reading), intermediate (computer use or cooking), and far (driving). Traditional monofocal lenses usually provide good vision only at a distance with limited ability to see objects that are near without glasses.

Q. How does the TECNIS® Multifocal Lens replace the cataract?

A: The natural lens inside the eye is gently removed through a tiny incision in the periphery of your eye’s cornea. The cataract-impaired lens is then removed through this incision and the lens implant is inserted in its place to permanently replace it. The procedure usually takes about 15 to 45 minutes and vision is usually improved immediately.

See What Our Patients Are Saying

“As an avid fisherman, golfer and building contractor I rely on my eyes a lot. Dr. Zimm helped correct my long distance vision to the point that I no longer have to strain my eyes to see the fish or watch the golf ball. They also fitted me for the right glasses to wear driving vs. out on the boat and golf course. Major improvement in quality of living!!!”

“Just had LASIK here. The first appointment took a while, but that's because they did a lot of testing. Theyhad me scheduled the next week and they did the surgery within about 1 hour. Dr. Zimm was very nice, chill, and laid-back, which put me at eas. I couldn't get one of my eyes to cooperate, but he stuck with itand helped coach me through not moving it during the surgery.”
